Key trends for spring/summer 2024
- Low Waist
Of all the elements that make up an outfit, the waistline is probably the most diverse – from empire and high-waisted, to paper bag and asymmetrical. Thanks to the Y2K revival, low waists have been dominating last season, and for SS24, our waistbands just dropped. Yes, we are in the age of the elongated torso. While Jil Sander, Roksanda, and Acne Studios insisted on a fitted torso attached to a pleated, flowing skirt, Molly Goddard took the phrase “how low can you go” to a new level with low-waisted maxi dresses, and at Burberry trench coats were worn almost at the thighs of the models. model’s thighs.
- Shorts
You may have packed your shorts away with the rest of your summer closet, but climb into your attic and drag that vacuum-packed bag out of your bed. Sure, the thermostat may still be in single-digit temperatures, but shorts are now firmly on the fashion agenda. Check out Stella McCartney layering a flowing tailored jacket over the smallest of hot pants, with Max Mara following suit by opting for an oversized blazer. Your top half doesn’t have to extend beyond the hem of the shorts, though, as Chanel layered black super-shorts with a ruffled knit. The only tweaks we’d make from the runway? Add knee-high boots and/or tights for much-needed warmth.
3.White
Okay, we know we just told you that red is the color of the season, but if that’s too bold for you, may we suggest white? There are always multiple color trends for a season, and this is one of the easiest ones to take advantage of – Saint Laurent, Valentino and Chloé have all featured this porcelain hue for a classic summer look, but they work surprisingly well in the colder months too. Selena Gomez and Jenna Ortega have both been representing winter whites recently. The key to this season’s look? Look for texture, from Chloé’s exaggerated ruffles to Valentino’s intricate laser-cut pieces.
4.The color red
Well, surely you know that the color red is huge news. After a summer of Barbiecore (thanks Margot Robbie), fashion trends have changed and a more intense tone is in the spotlight. Hello, wine red wine and burgundy. Unsurprisingly, it was everywhere on the SS24 runway. But we’re not talking subtle scarlet accents here; the runways of Alexander McQueen, Schiaparelli, Hermès, Sacai, Zimmerman, Akris, Valentino and Isabel Marant were awash with head-to-toe saturated outfits.
5.Open-heeled shoes
Whether you’re wearing thick-soled stilettos as soon as the blockade is lifted or sticking to just flats (preferably flip-flops) post-Covid, open-heeled shoes are guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser, thanks to the varying heel heights. So imagine our delight when we saw the sculptural progression of stylish shoes at Saint Laurent, as well as more wearable designs at Valentino and Altuzarra. We love the pointed toe peeking out below the hem of the flared jean.
6.Metallic colors
Don’t pack your sequins just yet. Who says metallics are only for Christmas? We’re going for the ‘more is more’ attitude, keeping the party in mind with gold and silver accents and glittery embellishments guaranteed to brighten up a grey day, with Erdem, Simone Rocha and Alexander McQueen retaining the classic palette while Supriya Lele introduces iridescent greens, purples and pinks. Lele introduced iridescent greens, while Laquan Smith showcased shimmering turquoise, purple and pink. Keep it modern and cool by pairing a sequin bustier with a basic white T-shirt.
