When should I stop wearing sandals?
While fashionistas love white and black, the “rules” of fashion are no longer black and white. Take seasonal transitions, for example, what do you wear on your feet when the weather feels like August in October? Our stylists believe that as the weather changes, we answer a question on everyone’s mind.
“When do I stop wearing sandals?!”
September.
Sometimes the weather in New England obeys – which means that the day after summer turns to fall, on September 23 this year, it will be cooler. With global warming, however, there really isn’t a predetermined day when all toes must disappear.
We say rock the sandal until the weather gets colder, especially the heartier versions with lug soles or chunky heels, which naturally feel more drop-dead than lace-up versions. Warm earth tones are also easier to transition into your fall closet than sunny brights.
October.
Did someone say pumpkin spice? Come October, it’s officially fall, but there’s no law that says we have to pack all our sandals. While you can definitely wear boots, continue to mix and match sandals on those warm sunny days to lighten up heavier fall pieces like denim or cardigans.
If you’re still not convinced that it’s cold enough to unpack your boots, some great options to bridge the transition are sneakers, loafers, or ballet flats.
November.
Once the weather stays cold, it’s time to cover your toes and show your appreciation for pretty boots ……! Especially those ankle-high boots, whether they’re colorful, slouchy, or “character sole” boots, we love them as a late fall/early winter must-have.
We love the return of knee-high boots, and classic riding boots always add style and comfort. On milder days, brighten up the look with a bare-legged dress or exposed pants. On colder days, wear thick tights and warm socks underneath your stylish boots for a look that’s both beautiful and practical!
