What to Wear at the Winery (The Ultimate Style Guide to Winery Clothing)

Wine tasting is always a great way to have a great time! When delicious wine, breathtaking views, interesting people and perfect weather surround you, the last thing you want to worry about is your outfit. That’s why I’ve put together this ultimate guide on what to wear to a winery. Not only will this style guide answer the question of what to wear to a wine tasting, but it will also feature many fashion tips, outfit ideas, what to wear in different seasons, and it’s filled with outfit photos!

.Layer a blazer or a cute denim jacket: If your winery outfit looks a little simple, add a stylish layer. Depending on the season, you can wear a denim jacket in the summer, a floral blazer in the spring, a long cardigan in the fall, and a coat in the winter. Make sure this layer isn’t too bulky because you’ll want to move freely no matter the season.

.Wear comfortable shoes: If you are going to sign up for a wine tour or have a long list of wineries you plan to visit, wear comfortable shoes. But comfortable doesn’t have to be sneakers. Instead of sneakers, wear flat sandals, wedges, Louboutins, or even some nice slippers. Also consider which wineries you’ll be visiting, which means you’ll probably be walking in grass, dirt, gravel, or cobblestones.

.Hands-free and small purse: When you’re tasting wine, you’ll be walking around a lot, holding and reading brochures, tasting cheese or chocolate, and, of course, holding various wine glasses. So it’s best to wear a hassle-free bag. Additionally, if you carry a purse without a strap, there is a risk of forgetting it or putting it down without paying attention to it. The best purses to wear at the winery are small crossbody bags like Chloe’s ultra-chic Mini Marcie, Gucci’s classic Soho Disco bag, or Saint Laurent’s mini interwoven monogrammed crossbody.

.dress more than casual: leave the leggings at home! Even though breweries are basically the farms of the country, don’t think you can just throw on some jeans and a t-shirt and call it a day (unless of course you want to, but if you did, you wouldn’t be reading this). Opt for a little more than casual correct attire. I still consider wine tasting to be a very posh event, so I always try to dress nice and elegant. 5.Low Maintenance Hair: Your wine tasting attire includes your hair, so wear your hair up or style it in a no-maintenance way throughout the wine tasting event. If you plan on hanging out on the wine trail all day, I recommend wearing your hair in a ponytail or bun. That way you don’t have to worry about it getting frizzy, flat, or messing it up on your wine tasting tour. If I have extra time in the morning, I blow dry it so it looks good.

.Wear Lipstick: The main activity at a wine tasting is drinking, so don’t wear lipstick. You don’t want to always be checking your lipstick or reapplying when you get in the car. Keep it simple and put on lipstick

.Skip the strong perfume: You’ll be smelling a lot of wine trying to decipher which notes stand out the most, and you don’t want other scents to interfere, so skip the perfume! Not wearing perfume is also a courtesy to the group you’re tasting with, as well as other guests in the tasting room or cave.

.Wear pretty prints: If you need to bring some interest to your wine tasting attire, swap solid colors for prints. Instead of a solid blue dress, wear a dress with horizontal stripes, like my example outfit below. Wear floral shirts in spring, stripes in summer, plaids and tartans in fall, and kilts in winter.

.Simple is better: don’t wear clothes that are too high maintenance. The clothes you wear to the winery need to be comfortable and stylish, but keep in mind the fourth point and don’t be too casual either.

.don’t be afraid to wear white: there’s nothing wrong with wearing white to a winery. I’ve worn white jeans to wine tastings, check out the example outfit below. If you know you spill a lot then I suggest skipping the white.
